Add the AlertSense number (606) 393-4240 to your contacts to make sure you answer or so you can call it back to get the message repeated.
Boyd County Emergency and public services has transitioned from Nixle Alerts to a new emergency notification program effective June 1, 2016.
This program is used to deliver messages in text, email or voice message for landline or cell phones in emergency situations to warn the public of impending situations. . All alerts will be delivered by text, email or voice depending on the preferences indicated upon sign up. Utilizing the 911 landline database, voice dial messages for traditional landline phones will only be used for critical or severe alerts and do not require sign up to activate.
There’s an app for that! Click the icon below to download the MyAlert app for public alerts.
All Water Advisories will be sent via voice message so that the message can be geo-targeted to deliver only to those residents in the area directly affected. Watch for this number (606) 393-4240 on your caller ID.
If you do not have a landline phone and use cellular service only, and you wish to receive emergency alert messages, you must sign up via the Boyd County Alert Sense Public Enrollment sign up page or go to this url: http://public.alertsense.com/SignUp/?regionid=1208
There are also links to the site on the home page of the Ashland-Boyd County-Catlettsburg Emergency Management , Boyd County 911, Boyd Fiscal Court and Ashland Police Department Websites.
When submitting your information for enrollment, please be sure to
put your complete physical address. Please do not use a PO Box
as your address is used to send you alerts that affect your area only,
such as Boil Water Advisories. Enter only the information for the contact method you prefer (cell phone, email etc).
MAKE SURE TO FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE CONFIRMATION MESSAGE YOU RECEIVE VIA TEXT OR EMAIL. THIS COMPLETES AND ACTIVATES YOUR ACCOUNT REGISTRATION.
You may also download the myAlerts App (red icon) from AlertSense. You can find the app in the Google Play or Apple App Store.
This app allows you to receive public, weather, and Community
alerts based on your phone’s location. You do not have to pay or subscribe to use this app, and you can receive alerts from other agencies that use AlertSense while you are traveling.
Messages that will be sent by Boyd County 911 will include the following:
- Traffic detours and tie-ups due to weather or traffic accidents that will last more than one hour.
- Broadcasts of missing children or endangered adults where a search has been instituted.
- Emergency crime information that poses a hazard to the public as approved or requested by the supervisor of the lead investigating Law Enforcement agency.
- Area Emergency Evacuations or Shelter- in- Place orders issued by EMA.
- Other public information as approved by the Director.
Weather messages are available depending subscriber preferences indicated at sign up.
Local government will have access to send targeted messages to affected areas that involve water outages or boil water advisories. The new system will enable message sending to be geo-targeted rather than to the whole county. This will reduce unwanted information overload. It is our sincere goal to provide needed and pertinent information in a timely manner.
